Bill sang his way through illness and disability, and his own life story of serving in the Navy and in Vietnam by using song as a powerful and distinctive style of narrative. Sadly because of music royalties and copyright issues of music reproduction, we can't bring you his renditions of 'A Track Winding Back' or 'We'll Meet Again' online. But this photo captures the expansivenss of Bill's range and the enthusiasm for musicals and music that he has; something this project officer enjoyed - and often sang along to - each walk outside Bill's room and up the corridor at the end of the day.
Not surprisingly Bill revealed that song featured as an important tool for building morale and helping to dispel fear amonsgt the men. Particularly helpful on long deployments and when sailors were far away from shore and loved ones.
